Cultural Night and Inaugural Mass of The Jubilee Year – 100 Years of The Redemptorists’ Presence in Vietnam

On the evening of November 29, 2024, at the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish in Hue, the Redemptorist Province of Vietnam organized a cultural performance night marking 100 years of the Redemptorists’ presence in Vietnam.

The event was attended by Coadjutor Archbishop of Hue, Joseph Đặng Đức Ngân, the Provincial Superior Father Dominic Nguyễn Đức Thông, hundreds of Redemptorist priests and religious, along with thousands of lay faithful. The three-hour program highlighted the Redemptorists’ 100-year history in Vietnam and featured songs of gratitude to God.

The following morning, November 30, 2024, at 8:30 AM, the Inaugural Mass for the Jubilee Year commemorating 100 years of the Redemptorists in Vietnam took place. This historic moment for the Redemptorist Province carried the theme “100 Years – Mission in Grace,” expressing gratitude for God’s blessings over the past century.

The Mass was presided over by Coadjutor Archbishop of Hue, Joseph Đặng Đức Ngân, with concelebrants including Bishop Matthew Nguyễn Văn Khôi, Provincial Superior Dominic Nguyễn Đức Thông, monsignors, the Vicar General, and priests within and outside the Province.

Before the Mass began, Father Dominic Trần Thiện Thanh Trà, the Provincial Office Secretary, read the Decree for the Jubilee Year signed on November 25, 2024, by Cardinal Angelus De Donatis of the Apostolic Penitentiary in Rome.

In his homily, Archbishop Joseph Đặng Đức Ngân emphasized gratitude to God for His abundant blessings on the Redemptorists and the people of Vietnam. He encouraged the Province to unite with God and one another to carry out the mission of evangelization, especially among the poor, the abandoned, and those in remote areas.

At the conclusion, Provincial Superior Dominic Nguyễn Đức Thông expressed heartfelt thanks to the bishops, clergy, religious, civil authorities, and parishioners for their love, support, and prayers during this significant event.

The day ended with a communal meal and cultural performances, bringing joy to all. Thanks were offered to God and Our Mother of Perpetual Help for a solemn, fervent, and joyful Jubilee opening.
